Consumer Reports Magazine iPad App Reviews

What are they doing?

Previously you could find product ratings via simple search. Now, the ability is gone.

For Shame

As Consumer Reports, you should be ashamed. Your rating: NR. Your site says I have the app INSTALLED, yet, I have no app icon, anywhere. At least Toyota fixes their messes. CR has no excuse. With the screen fixed in the portrait position, the app is of no use to me except in a landscape position.

Ipad cr app

Absolutely the worst app in app store. The irony of this situation amuses me. Folks at CR, did you ever do any testing on this app? First it has the most ridiculous login setup, and then it crashes almost always. Do something or you will lose subscribers even the print subscribers who thought they can use this app.

POOR

I just changed my password again, due to the app not recognizing the old one, again. I received an email that the change was successful. So I tried again to log in. As usual, I got an Authentication Failed response. This app is not worth the trouble. Im deleting it from my iPad immediately.

VERY FRUSTRATINGLY!

The download took longer then getting my print copy in my street mailbox. CONTINUALLY SHUTS DOWN! If you are in to verifying your account info on a regular basis then this is for you. A waste of time. I expected better from what is a good magazine. At least I still have my print copy.

I enjoy the monthly magazine

CR needs to review there own app. It will be the most popular article theyve ever wrote!

Pathetic

I am a long term print subscriber and feel that the quality of the magazine has deteriorated over the last couple of years. But this App is pathetic. No search function that I could find. Just pathetic.

Wants my money twice

I pay for online access and i cant do anything with the app unless i buy issues.

Dont bother yet!

While I am a long time online user, and recent subscriber to the magazine, this app is pretty useless on my iPad. Crashes before I can even download an issue. While I value the content provided by CR, this app needs more work before its ready for prime time! Sorry CR, but I have to give it a big black circle!

Horrible app that doesnt recognize your subscription

I dont understand how CRS app is so bad. Im still being asked to purchase an issue even though Im a subscriber. CR - wouldnt you call that fraud or theft if another company did this? Unless this is improved, I will not be renewing.

Doesnt work

The app would not recognize my account info, as some other people have reported. Great idea & I hope Consumer Reports will correct this problem.

Worst app ever

This is the hardest app Ive seen to negotiate. Its almost like C R doesnt WANT you to use it. Takes WAY too many steps to open the darn magazine then its not even searchable. Very disappointing product !

Not ready

Surprising disappointment fromCR! Never did get it up and running. Waited on hold for phone support for over 10 min, well beyond my standard level of patience, and then hung up. AP would not let me sign up because my email address was already in use, duh... Of course it was I am already a subscriber to the print version. For a group that can be so critical of others you need to get your own act under critical scrutiny!

Worked for me

I didnt expect much after reading the posted reviews. I gave it a try anyway and had the opposite experience. I entered my account number and zip code and quickly setup my email address and password. After signing in with the email and pw, the app displayed the magazine covers from the current issue back to 2012 when I first subscribed. I open the Jan 2016 issue and it had all the same content as the print version plus supplemental videos with some of the articles. I was also able to open past issues to read other articles without issue.

Dont waste your time

This app was so maddening the last time I used it that I didnt come back until six months later, but guess what--no improvement! Its still impossible to get logged on! Im a long time print subscriber and have a user login name and password, which it accepted the last time (after a phone call to their support desk) but it doesnt work anymore. Just read the paper version, thats apparently what CR wants you to do. Id rate it a Zero If that was an option.

Try again folks.

I followed the steps and had no problems. Love having this available.

Solid black circle = Poor

Almost worthless. Unsure if Consumer Reports paid for this to be created or if it was donated by Chinese hackers. Frustrating, non-intuitive, requires multiple inputs of same field, Download and THEN View? Really!?!? CR, pay attention to the poor reviews of your app, and fix it.

Good content, meh app

Love the content. App is a pain. You have to log in every time you want to read any content. Please fix the app.

Need searching tool

I did not have any problem installing the app. A feature that is needed is a search tool to find article(s) across the monthly magazines.

CRa app is a disgrace

Ive been a CR subscriber for over 30 years and for the first time Im seriously considering an exit. Logging on to CR and downloading issues has been arduous from the start of CRs online existence, often requiring long calls to customer service, which is always aggravating. Today CR required me to become a "new" subscriber to its online edition and then offered me a half-price "introductory" subscription to the print edition, which I agreed to. Then I looked up my account info and found that my subscription to the print edition has been current and ends only in 2020.Class-action suit time, to end deceptive sales practices?
